Who are you and what have you done with Missy?

Ok, this is really weird, but after reading a whole bunch of people who seem very invested in the topic, including these posts, I think I might be interested in the US presidential election.

How weird is that?!

I do not even care about politics in my own country (despite having studied it for two years, and having a best friend who CARES DEEPLY about all that shit stuff and does her best to make it interesting to me).

One of my lecturers had a theory about how we're all too complacent because nothing ever goes wrong so we've have it too easy blah blah. Maybe so but we're quick enough to bitch about it.

Anyway, I just think it's cool that there could be a non White Male president. Which is not to say that they'd automatically do a better job because of that. But maybe they would. Maybe they'd have more incentive, or a different perspective, or maybe they'd just be the best man - or woman - for the job.

I hope no-one expects me to maintain this high level of interest in the political affairs of any country. Finding the prospect of a black/woman president mildly appealing was about the extent of my excitement.

I'M SO PROUD! AFTER A YEAR-LONG ATTEMPT AT COAXING SOME INTEREST OUT OF YOU, IT JUST APPEARS!!!
    Don't fight it.
The obsession always begins with a little bit of interest...

  2. If you're looking for a new obsession, buy a wood-turning lathe.

Much more fun than politicals, though less profitable.

But just imagine - if John Howard had spent 35 years making wooden bowls and knick-knacks, he would be affectionately tolerated by the 20 people who knew him. Instead, he's detested by half the population of Australia!

vsquared: I think you can safely say more than half the population of Australia - afterall, even his deputy hated him!

  4. You hit the nail on the head for my inexplicable support for Obama. I can't quite explain it. It just feels like of cool to think of his as president.

  5. Carlabalala, ESPECIALLY his deputy hated him. But he knew him better than the rest of us did.
